LOST PIGEONS - We appreciate anyone giving us a call when you find a lost pigeon with a ring or band on its leg. If you find a pigeon not in the Spring Hill, Florida area you can click on this link to find out where the bird is from American Racing Pigeon Union. Again, we appreciate all the calls from everyone who has found lost pigeons. Why do the pigeons show up at your houses? Could be many reasons. A hawk can scare a pigeon away from its home or it could be hurt by telephone wires or hawk attack. These birds at this time of year are generally Young pigeons born earlier this year and they simply havent developed their homing instinct.

Please sign our guestbook on the "Contact Us" page. We would love to hear from you.

See our new "Yards Per Minute" calculator at the bottom of this page.

We are located in Spring Hill, Fl (Little Belgium)(GHC). The competition is very tough, 200 members and growing, seconds off the clock will set you back fifty to hundred places on the race sheet. I raced here last year and came in 69th average speed out of over a 100 flyers competing. Not good but not to bad considering in my 41 years of life i have only raced 5 youngbird seasons and no old bird races yet. I was in the Navy for 20 years and it made it quite difficult to have birds. And i am competing aginst some of the best flyers in the country, guys who dont work, they only work with pigeons all day. It is really quite amazing here. There are lofts everywhere. There are pigeon people everywhere. You can go to the club house and have coffee and talk story and later go to one of the many feed stores and chat with the pigeon people. then at night they all meet at different establishments. I got my first birds in Chula Vista, California. This guy that lived behind me had rollers and i would sit and watch them fly for as long as they were up in the air. When he moved he gave the loft and birds to me. I only had them for a couple of months until i too had to move from Sunny Cali to SpringField, Oregon, not to far from where i was born. A year or so went by and i asked my parents if i could get some pigeons. I got two pair of rollers from a shyster antique shop owner who ahd rollers and some fancy pigeons in the back. I had built onto a small cage my grandfather had put together. I settled the rollers and would let them out everyday, but they would hardly fly for five minutes. I spent my time chasing them from wire to wire just to get them to fly. On occasion i would see stray pigeons fly by and i would always let the two pair out in hopes of bringing the stray pigeons back. It worked well, after a while they knew exactly what i wanted from them. Everytime i saw a stray pigeon i let them out and they headed straight for that pigeon. I was very good at reading a pigeons actions. I could tell if they were going to fly or spooked i knew just how to ease them in. One i saw saw a huge flock of pigeons flying close by my house. So,... just like always i let the birds out by now i had eight pigeons. They flew straight for the flock and pulled that huge flock right over to my house. But out of that whole flock i only persuaded one pigeon in my cage. Everyday i would see these two different flock of pigeons and everyday i sent out the team to go get'em. I ended up with five of these pigeons from these flocks. These birds love to fly too. And that is and still is today what i want to see, a team of race birds flying around the loft. Two weeks went by abd then one day the doorbell rings and my mom answers the door. There were two guys asking if we had pigeons? My mom said "my son has pigeons" could we speak to him they said? I go to the door and they asked if i had got any new stray pigeons with bands on their legs? I said sure, lots of them!! Could we see them please? Sure i said. sure enough they where their pigeons. They introduced themselves as pigeon racers with the Willamette Racing Pigeon Club. And sked if i wanted to see what they do. Ofcourse i did and on the weekend i went to see what it was all about. This is how i got introduced to pigeon racing. I trained with those guys and race as many races as i could. My dad built me an awesome 8x8 loft and it even had a floor. Ofcourse nothing miraculous happened except i did win the 300m B race at then end of the year winning the club and concourse.
